Just learned that in the UK minimum wage for teenagers is lower than for adults? What kind of nonsense are y’all putting up with over there this should cause you to start screaming

It’s also lower for 18-20 year olds??? Actual whole ass legal adults? The entire full ass of adult and they don’t get full minimum wage?

How are y’all not currently eating your couch cushions over this

No it’s not like this everywhere and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that laws like this can be used to hire hoards of severely underpaid teens and young adults that then get dumped the second they turn 20, making less opportunities for older blue collar laborers and not giving young workers what their labor is worth like I just learned about this and even I can put that together this is bad for everyone except for those guys who own like three dozen McDonald’s franchises

got told at lunch “you feel like Tumblr Incarnate” and i had to tell them i’ve been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i’ve been here longer than the shoelaces post. i’ve been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i’m every tumblr. it’s all in me

Oh ancient one what wisdom do you hold?

  • 99% of callout posts are bullshit and just petty personal drama someone is escalating to get even on a grudge. do not engage with these, do not freelance as a cop
  • DNIs do not work. accept this. internalize that people you don’t like will see your posts and engage with them. this is unavoidable and the sooner you make peace with it the freer your mind will be. block the freaks and don’t sweat the small stuff
  • building a tight knit circle of fellow weirdos who vibe with your particular quirks and taste is infinitely more rewarding and sustainable than chasing the biggest numbers
  • don’t respond to bad-faith arguments or bad takes; just block people, blacklist tags, filter post content, and move on. don’t feed the trolls (or the bigots)
  • don’t hate-follow
  • don’t tag your hate (ex. if you’re posting about how much you hate a ship, don’t tag it as that ship, etc.)
  • don’t feel obligated to keep following someone who posts stuff that upsets/depresses/angers/bores you just because you know them really well, or because you’re mutuals, or because you used to like what they post. following is nothing personal and neither is unfollowing
  • op doesn’t know you; avoid parasocial relationships
  • don’t pick fights or reblog posts just to disagree/argue
  • spread joy and positivity in your circles
  • disable anonymous asks

This is some of the best social media advice (and advice for being a human among humans generally) I’ve ever seen.

Only one thing y’all can take from trans women. Notes.

i hope all of these girls have a great day and i love the girl who forgot her wig but the sis with the hijabi damn near made me cry sob i love this <3333333

Another thing abt this video: nearly every beauty involved is Indigenous or Black, the two minority groups of trans women that frequently get left out of discussions when it comes to highlighting trans women and their beauty, and the two groups at the highest risk of violence while trans. These women deserve love and praise just like y’all’s favorite white women do. Show up for Black and Indigenous trans women.

I was so suprised when I first found out that Chlerek (Chloe/Derek from The Darkest Powers trilogy) wasn’t originally Kelley Armstrong’s plan, because they’re up there in my list of favorite book couples. But yeah, her original plan was to have Chloe/Simon happen and have Derek and Chloe as just friends. She didn’t expect Derek to be a popular character. But because of how much fans ended up loving the Chloe/Derek relationship after the first book, she decided to change it.

But in a way, it ended up being even more perfect. The first book was truly just about Derek and Chloe becoming friends and learning to trust each other, while the hints of romance didn’t start happening until the second book. I like that they had a solid friendship before they started crushing on each other.

Things that work in fiction but not real life

  • torture getting reliable information out of people
  • knocking someone out to harmlessly incapacitate them for like an hour
  • jumping into water from staggering heights and surviving the fall completely intact
  • calling the police to deescalate a situation
  • rafting your way off a desert island
  • correctly profiling total strangers based on vibes
  • effectively operating every computer by typing and nothing else
  • ripping an IV out of your arm without consequences
  • heterosexual cowboy

This post breaching containment has taught me that a lot of people seem to think they can accurately profile complete strangers. For the record, no the fuck you can’t.

  • Miraculous CPR recovery
  • Going over a waterfall and surviving
  • Travelling while wet and not dying of exposure
  • Sword fights lasting more than a minute
  • Jumping onto the back of a horse, particularly from a height
  • Most explosions
  • Hacking computers by typing quickly
  • Fighting off large wildlife

Waking up from a coma totally unscathed and speaking normally. (look that Pedro Pascal skit on SNL was more accurate than most depictions on TV)

I still love how when the switch came out Nintendo was like “I know! We will make the switch games taste bad so kids won’t eat them!”

And all of humanity collectively said: “Okay but how bad does it taste?” And licked their switch cartridges.

Philosophers and anthropologists have debated it for years. “The defining trait of humanity is our intelligence/compassion/creativity/curiosity, etc.”

No no. All of that is wrong.

The defining trait of humanity is that we are weird as shit.

abstract and modern art haters are sooo snobby like klein literally Created an entirely new pigment and then painted a canvas in a way where the brush strokes wouldn’t be visible. the insinuation that people with no skill could reproduce that is so annoying because unless you are skilled at color mixing and painting you definitely couldn’t lmao

i hope it’s okay to add this because i think it hits the nail directly on the head

Honestly, it’s like picking up a book and saying “I know all these words, I can type, I could have written this” like there’s no middle step between the technical ability and the finished work.
